Who is to fill Customs Declaration CN22?

The sender fills the Customs Declaration cn22. The customs law says that the importer is legally responsible for the Customs Declaration. So, the cn22 should be filled very carefully and completely.

If the importer (shopper) decides to do the Customs formalities on their own, then the sender should write that the goods are to be Customs cleared by the importer. If it is not marked like that then the importer will have no authority to Customs clear the goods. The importer will pay the due taxes and then the goods will be released for the delivery. The manual procedure is time taking though.

How to declare the package contents correctly on CN22?

It should be mentioned clearly that what is inside the package. It is important to avoid delays and ease the checking procedure. If the goods are mentioned incorrectly or the information is misleading then the recipient will have to pay fine and the product will be seized.

Following description should be mentioned on the declaration:

  • Item: Clearly mention what is inside the package. Like ‘woman casual wear shirts’ or ‘men formal wear shirts’ etc. General description is not allowed. For example, ‘sample products’ is not allowed as it is not clear that what is inside the package.
  • Quantity: Write the number of products you are sending in figures and words also. For example, ‘100’ and ‘hundred’.
  • Weight: weigh your products before packaging and write on the declaration. Write the weight of each product along with the net weight of the package in kilograms (kgs)
  • Value: Write the price of each product along with the total in the currency in which the products are purchased. Make sure to write correct value as the taxes and Customs charges will be according to the final value of the package. Also, see the limit which is allowed by the country in which goods are to be sent. For example, for United Kingdoms, the Customs duty becomes payable if the total value of all the goods in the package is over £135.
  • Category: There are many options of different categories to choose from. You can choose the correct category by discussing it with the importer also. As choosing the wrong category can result in extra charges.
  • Address: Write the correct address of the recipient. In case of incorrect address, the package may get stuck and the delivery will be delayed.
  • Additional information: Invoice should be attached of all the items in the package. Other necessary information should also be given. For example, if the goods are fragile, mention it. If the items are with license then do mention it and tick the correct box and specify the numbers on the Customs Declaration.
